J2.5 Upgrade Nightmares

Started by nods (Guest) on Wednesday, February 22 2012, 12:07 PM ·

I've been having nightmares trying to upgrade to 2.5.1 from 1.7.4 for over a week now, on a JA Travel template using XAMPP. Numerous errors, white screens, sleepless nights. Tried anything and everything from forums.

The next thing i am trying to solve my problems with is reinstall XAMPP, Filezilla, Phpmyadmin, a new 2.5.1 version. And now restore with Akeeba kickstart.

Following the Kickstart video: I can get the Kickstart files on to the right of the Filezilla server, and my Akeeba backup folder of my site, but when i try view localhost/mysite/kickstart.php it says "object not found" - so i can't continue.

Any ideas? Much thanks

You are probably running a recent version of XAMPP which has strict standards reporting turned on.

Make sure you have installed XAMPP 1.7.3 -- it's an older version. That should fix your problem.

    Alternatively, use WAMP.

Thanks Jen. Some more advice from Joomlart pointed to WAMP over XAMPP as well so i gave it a try. But then still had issues. After hours more research i realised that php 5.3 can offer up a lot of problems. So i tried 5.2 and so far so good. I think i've managed to solve everything. No more blank pages!! My biggest Joomla problem to date, taking up over 12 full days, so seriously draining on my deadlines, but hopefully all solved now.
