thumb_official-joomla-bookThe publishing house Addison-Wesley Professional today announced the launch of two forthcoming Joomla books.

The Official Joomla! Book and Joomla! Explained: Your Step-by-Step Guide. Both titles are designed for end-users and administrators utilizing Joomla – the free, open source content management system – to develop a web presence.

Written by Joomla experts, the books provide a useful, well-written, and engaging platform for all segments of the Joomla community, from beginners to more advanced developers. Pearson made the announcement to coincide with Joomla Day USA West 2010 being held on the eBay/PayPal North campus in San Jose, Calif. today through Sunday, Oct. 3.

ebay-logoAs I mentioned a few days ago, there was going to be a big announcement for Joomla today. eBay announced earlier today that the company is going to use Joomla, the world's largest open source content management system (CMS). Joomla will be used for its thousands of employees to share information in its community portal. It might not be as big as it seemed at first, but I believe it's still a really good thing for Joomla.

The "Community Analytics" program will enable eBay's 16,400 employees to source and analyze massive amounts of data to power ideas and learning across the company.

In exchange, eBay will contribute its experiences by becoming part of the Joomla open source community

eBay North San JoseAccording to a recent press release, attendees at Joomla Day West USA will be the first to know about the latest developlment of the Joomla project.

The conference will be held on the eBay/PayPal North campus in San Jose, Calif., Oct. 1 through 3, 2010, and will provide open discussions and interactive sessions about the Joomla CMS.

Although the press release issued on September 22nd was a bit cryptic, it seems there is a big announcement coming. And as far as I understand, a positive one involving a large company.

bugAs you might know, Joomla 1.6 beta 10 was released on Tuesday. Some people wonder why it takes that many beta versions to finish Joomla 1.6.

There is a lot of activity in the project. Nonetheless, here has been some disagreements and people have left the Joomla 1.6 Bug Squad. Others have since joined, and I hope we will see more activity in the coming weeks and months towards a Release Candidate for Joomla 1.6.

In this post, I look at some of the factors involved in the bug fixing of Joomla 1.6.

When I was at J and Beyond earlier this year, I met Aarti Mahajan. She's not a Joomla developer. She's not a Joomla site integrator. She does not sell anything related to Joomla. She doesn't even use Joomla. So why was she there?

It turned out she's conducting the first economic study on Joomla ever. Read this interview to find out more about her exciting research project and how you can contribute. This is something that will benefit us all.

JomSocial, the community component for Joomla, will soon get chat functions. JomSocial is in use on a lot of sites, among them the popular people.joomla.org - the official Joomla! community site.

Later this month, Azrul will release a chat add-on for JomSocial called SookaChat.
The extension will enable users of JomSocial powered sites to chat directly on the site.
