Big news for Joomla coming at Joomla Day West USA

eBay North San JoseAccording to a recent press release, attendees at Joomla Day West USA will be the first to know about the latest developlment of the Joomla project.

The conference will be held on the eBay/PayPal North campus in San Jose, Calif., Oct. 1 through 3, 2010, and will provide open discussions and interactive sessions about the Joomla CMS.

Although the press release issued on September 22nd was a bit cryptic, it seems there is a big announcement coming. And as far as I understand, a positive one involving a large company.

Ron Severdia, organizer of Joomla Day West, says:

We welcome Joomla Day West to eBay’s North campus, to promote excellent discussion and debate.

At the very core of Joomla is a community of users and Joomla Day West embodies this by encouraging people to share ideas.

Joomla Day West is shaping up to be unlike any other Joomla event in the open source community’s history. It will provide valuable takeaways for the most inexperienced Joomla user to the most seasoned web developer.

Unconference

The three-day conference will be held at the eBay/PayPal Town Hall conference center. The main part of the event will follow the “unconference” format, which means attendees create the agenda and sessions they are most interested in. There will also be keynote speeches from longtime key developers Andrew Eddie, Louis Landry and Ron Severdia who will share their vision for the Joomla platform's future.

Ryan Ozimek, president of Open Source Matters, which provides support for Joomla's financial and licensing needs, will also give a “State of the Joomla Project” keynote.

eBay welcomes Joomla

Bob Page, eBay vice president, analytics platform, states:

eBay was founded on the notion of creating a community that connects people, and we support the goal of the open source community to be a forum for advancing idea sharing and development.

We welcome Joomla Day West to eBay’s North campus, to promote excellent discussion and debate.
