OSM Call for Treasurer Nominations

Written by Alice Grevet

With the upcoming departure of Thomas Hampton who has served on the board of OSM as Treasurer for the past year, nominations are now open for this position.  Any member of the Joomla community at large is free to submit a nomination for him/herself, or for another community member.  Nominees should be motivated to serve the project in this role, and be able to devote 2-3 hours a week to the job.  The position of Treasurer is described as follows:  The Treasurer is the officer assigned the primary responsibility of overseeing the management and reporting of an organization’s finances. The Treasurer has many important duties specific to its role, including:

  • is a member of the Board
  • is a member of the Executive Committee
  • manages the finances of the organization
  • attends monthly board meetings
  • administers fiscal matters of the organization

RokSprocket2 with new Simple Provider

Written by Andy Miller

RokSprocket 2 is a major release of RokSprocket for Joomla and WordPress that extends our powerful RokSprocket module to include a new ‘simple’ content provider. This allows for on-the-fly creation of content directly within the RokSprocket module without the need of existing articles from one of the available content providers.  Essentially, you can create a powerful interactive showcase on the fly that enhances your visitor's experience on your site and directs them to specific links and information you would have to create an article in support of otherwise.

The first thing you'll notice upon installing RokSprocket 2 is the addition of the Simple content provider. It's through this additional content provider that you are able to break free from your CMS and create a module that contains content that exists exclusively within RokSprocket.  When using ‘Simple’ as the content provider, you can set ordering to random and/or manual. Since items are not pulled from an existing source, you can arrange them to meet your individual preferences with the option to allow visitors to activate random sorting. This is done to give you maximum control over how content is presented so the module appears the way you want it to every time a visitor loads the page.

Written by Anthony Olsen

I've just taken the wrappers off our latest Joomla template release and I really hope you like it.  Nebula is a business oriented theme that merges soft, blurry header elements with crisp lines and lots of white space.   It features a bouncy / css3 animated slideshow treatment of our Zentools module as well as a thourough integration of our stand alone responsive templates for K2 - Zenkit. Which makes this theme a truly versatile template to build your next Joomla template with.

AUD falls and so do our prices

Written by Anthony Olsen

One of the complexities joys of operating an international business is keeping tabs on the cross border currency conversion and conversion rate costs. Last year we moved to selling our services in Australian dollars in order to ensure we could keep our subscription costs low - Paypal charges some pretty crazy currency conversion rates and takes a less than optimistic view of what currency is worth at any given time - so it made sense to take one of those variables out of the picture and start chargin in our native currency.

For the last 12 months or so the Australian dollar has been at or above parity with the US dollar which meant that the US dollar equivalent price for our subscriptions was slightly higher than the Australian dollar price mentioned on our subscription page.
