Is the Sample Joomla Content Bad for SEO?

Sample Joomla content and SEOEven though the Joomla installation comes with an option to install sample content, I've never used it in a real site.

I think I installed the sample data the first time I installed a test version of Joomla, but I've never done it again.

In this post, I'll look at the Joomla sample content, and see if it's bad for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to use this content on your site.

In this first post I'll look at what meta tags are and what they should be used for.

The other posts in the series examine how to set up the meta tags by using the Joomla core, and with third-party SEF extensions. As well as setting up Google Webmaster tools.

10 things you need to know about Joomla SEO

ten-tips-seoSEO - or Search Engine Optimization - is a complex area of web development. I've been working with SEO for a number of years, and with Joomla and SEO for almost 4 years now.

In this post, I talk about ten important factors you should consider when optimizing your site.

For me, SEO is about what you do every day. SEO is a long term strategy - not a quick fix.

If you implement these factors, you will see increased search engine traffic to your site. All without breaking your neck performing them ;)

Six steps to get your Joomla site indexed in Google

HTML output from the OSMap sitemap extension from Alledia.

OK, so you have a brand new site going on - and it's all made in Joomla. But how to get traffic from the search engines?

There are several things you can do to ensure that Google and other search engines are picking up your pages. This will, over time, give you search engine positions for  your keywords.

Without indexation, no positions, and no traffic from search engines. It's not rocket science, but you need to make sure that your pages are reachable by search engine spiders to get indexed.

I'll show you six steps to get your site indexed by Google and other search engines.

Three schools of Joomla SEF URLs

There are basically three ways of approaching search engine friendly (SEF) URLs in Joomla. Here, I explain these three methods of Joomla SEO and their pros and cons.

Search engine friendly URLs are very important if you want to achieve good positions in Google and other search engines. Firstly, the URLs are a lot easier to understand for the user (more likely to be clicked). Secondly, and most importantly, they will (if well-built) contain keywords that the search engine may use in the indexation of the page and thus improve your rankings for those words.

Why blog with Joomla? Part 2

blogging-joomla-part2-illA couple of weeks ago, I wrote about why you should use Joomla for blogging. Now I want to expand a little on the topic.

I've been blogging with Joomla since 2009 and don't want it any other way. I think there are plenty of reasons why one should use Joomla for blogging. So the question if it is right for you. Not trying to convince you (OK, just a little), but the aim of this post is to help you decide on whether or not to use Joomla for your blog project.

Why blog with Joomla?

blogging-joomla-illAs you know, I’m blogging with Joomla myself. I find the Joomla platform to be a really good platform for blogging. But is it right for you?

In this post I explore some reasons why I think you should use Joomla as a blogging platform and why it might be a good choice.

If you're a Joomla addict like me, it seems only natural to use Joomla as a blogging platform. I have seen some blogs about Joomla that are built with Wordpress. To me, that's quite silly. If you're writing about how to use Joomla, you should use it for blogging as well, in my opinion.
