eBay chooses Joomla as platform for a 16000+ employee community portal

ebay-logoAs I mentioned a few days ago, there was going to be a big announcement for Joomla today. eBay announced earlier today that the company is going to use Joomla, the world's largest open source content management system (CMS). Joomla will be used for its thousands of employees to share information in its community portal. It might not be as big as it seemed at first, but I believe it's still a really good thing for Joomla.

The "Community Analytics" program will enable eBay's 16,400 employees to source and analyze massive amounts of data to power ideas and learning across the company.

In exchange, eBay will contribute its experiences by becoming part of the Joomla open source community

Video: Joomla! community involvement - what can you do to contribute?

Jeremy WilkenThere has been many efforts going lately to encourage people to contribute to the Joomla! project in various ways.

From the Joomla! Forward initiative and the alltogetherasawhole.org website, to lots of blog posts both on the joomla.org site and elsewhere.

Jeremy Wilken of Gnomeoftherun.com is one person with a strong opinion in this matter. I met up with him during the J and Beyond conference to hear what he had to say about contributing to the Joomla! project.

In this video interview Jeremy shares his thoughts on how you can contribute to Joomla! for our common benefit.

Contribute to the Joomla! project

Contribute to Joomla! There is a lot of talk about how you can contribute to the Joomla! CMS project. Joomla! is an Open Source Project, and it needs every one of us to grow and expand.

On this page, I have collected and will continue to add ways for you to contribute to the Joomla! project. If you have anything to share, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or comment below.

First, read my article on this subject: Joomla! user? Contribute to the project! I wrote the post in June 2009. Most of this still holds true, so start there.

Impressions from «J and Beyond 2010» [VIDEO]

impressions-illAs you know, I spent 4 days in Germany to attend the Joomla! conference «J and Beyond 2010». I had a great time! And it seems a lot of other people did, too.

I've put together a video with some attendees sharing their view on the conference.

Video: A talk about the Joomla! Forward initiative

Joomla ForwardThe Joomla! Forward is a community initative to move the development of Joomla forward. The initiative was started by Nicholas K. Dionysopoulos.

Yesterday, I had a chat with Nicholas, as well as Michel van Agtmaal about the Joomla! Forward initiative when I met them at the J and Beyond conference in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Joomla Resource Directory (JRD) launched!

In response to overwhelming interest and requests from the Joomla community, the Joomla Project announced that the Joomla Resource Directory goes online today at resources.joomla.org.

If you're a Joomla user, there's no easier way to find developers, service providers, and other valuable resources. This is a huge, and long-awaited, step forward for the Joomla Community, as it provides a way even for smaller companies to show off their services without paying for them.
