After a lot of commotion online, the Joomla Production Leadership Team (PLT) released yet another version of Joomla yesterday. Version 2.5.6 fixes 12 issues that appeared in 2.5.5.

I have not seen any trouble with 2.5.5 myself, but it caused trouble for some site owners.

Yesterday, the Joomla project released version 2.5.5 of our favorite CMS. This version contains quite a few new features, most of which will save you time when working on Joomla sites.

You should also note that if you're on Joomla 2.5.4, this version should be updated using the new Joomla Update component, and not the Extensions Manager. Read on for step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

If you have followed this blog for a while, you know that I have promoted Joomla 2.5 and upgrading to it. The latest version of Joomla was released in January 2012. Soon after its release, it was announced that all major updates of previous versions would end in April of this year.

With millions of Joomla users need to upgrade their Joomla 1.5 installations. That's why some of the world’s top Joomla companies now have taken it upon themselves to work together to provide the opportunity of a lifetime for one lucky Joomla user.

Here are some interesting Joomla blog posts I found during week 15:

2.5.3 is the current version of Joomla at the time of this writing. And as I wrote about last week, this latest version contains two important security fixes. Still, the small version badges (icons) showing supported Joomla versions are plastered across the Joomla Extensions Directory and developer's web sites.

The bad thing about showing these badges is that they give an impression that Joomla 1.6 and 1.7 are still supported versions. They are not. None of those versions are updated anymore, and they should not be used on any site.

But what about security updates, then? That's easy: Use version 2.5.3 (and later). That's the path to follow.

The Joomla Project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Joomla 2.5.2. This is a security release. The Production Leadership Team's goal is to continue to provide regular, frequent updates to the Joomla community.

The update process is very simple, and complete instructions are available here. Note that there are now easier and better ways of updating than FTPing the files.

A reader asked me about this recently. What he wanted was to hide the "Home" menu item when on the frontpage of his site.

I must admit I haven't really been in the situation where I'd needed that. Still, there might be others that need the same functionality on their site. So here are a couple of solutions for hiding a menu item on a particular page.
