Front-end developer Marco Barbosa has just released his advanced Joomla admin template: Minima.

This is a template for the Joomla administrator that changes the way it's presented. It also adds quite a few nifty features to the interface.

Minima is built using advanced CSS and other modern techniques. For that reason, you should use Firefox, Chrome, Safari or another browser with the latest CSS support to get the full experience from the template.

You will also need Joomla 1.6, as the template will only work on that version of the Joomla framework.

Here are some interesting Joomla blog posts I found during the last week.

Brian Teeman's been busy this week - presenting three posts about various Joomla topics. That's what happens when you travel, I guess - you get inspired!

There's also a post about the first JoomlaDay Chile by Ryan Ozimek.

The guys over at JoomStew have started an initative to help Matias Aguirre. He's the developer of the jUpgrade migration tool for Joomla 1.5 to 1.6.

He will benefit greatly if he's able to attend the J and Beyond event in The Netherlands this May. And so will you - as it will improve the way his migration component works and what it supports.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have the $2500 required for attendance and accomodation.

That's why the JoomStew people have started a fundraising initative to help him go to the event.

One of the hot topics after the release of Joomla 1.6 was how to upgrade from version 1.5. The only viable solution at the moment is using the jUpgrade component by Matias Aguirre.

Below, I've embedded the video made by people in the Joomla project to show how to upgrade your site to 1.6.

In October 2009, I wrote a blog post about migrating a Joomla! 1.5 site to version 1.6. I gave it the ambitious title of Migration from Joomla 1.5 to 1.6 will be easy. And it probably will. When the script is ready.

However, Joomla 1.6 was released this week without a migration script in place. When I started to look at the state of this script, it seemed everything stopped back in 2009. Apparently, there was little interest from developers to create this script.

After some digging, I contacted Matias Aguirre, the one who started the original discussion around a Joomla 1.6 migrator script. He responded immediately, and I got some more info on the script. Matias has been working on a script called jUpgrade. It's partially working, but he needs help finishing it.

After the release of Joomla 1.6 GA, it's just natural to have a chat with the lead developer: Andrew Eddie.

Andrew has been with the Joomla project since the Mambo days and has been leading the Production Leadership Team for some time now.

I managed to get some thoughts from him around the release of Joomla 1.6. Read on for an interview with "Mr. Joomla" where he talks about the process leading up to the release, new features, and feelings around community involvement.
