Joomla blog posts from around the web (06/11)

Hjoomla-week-06ere are some interesting Joomla blog posts I found during week 6.

J and Beyond calls out to the community to submit proposals for sessions. The deadline is March 4th.

There's also a piece about Molajo - is it a fork?

Last week also saw some controversy around the upgrading to 1.6 for a certain CCK extension for Joomla, and there's a really interesting sneak peek at the coming redesign of Joomla.org (I love the mega menu!!).

There's also an interview with Gary Brooks of CloudAccess.net about his background and the Joomla.org demo site - and many more posts this week.

Enjoy the read and have a great week!

Why we're not porting K2 to Joomla! 1.6 (just yet), the life cycle of a release, Nooku Server and more

Written by Fotis Evangelou

Why we're not porting K2 to Joomla! 1.6, etc - DELETED COMMENT

Written by James Durrant

I don’t think the poll reflects the entire K2 community and nor is it scientific. Many non-active community members will be installing Joomla 1.6 over the next few weeks and months only to discover that K2 won’t work with it, and I think there is a good chance that they’ll be disappointed.

Written by Amy Stephen

Molajo is a set of extensions that runs with Joomla! 1.6. Those extensions will be packaged with a copy of Joomla! 1.6 as a distribution. Our goal is to enable the update facility in 1.6 that will make it easier to keep the extensions and distribution up to date.

The Joomla Development Strategy

Written by Jeremy Wilken

There is some confusion about how Joomla is going to be maintained and further developed. To be honest, I have questions myself, and details about the strategy are somewhat outlined here http://developer.joomla.org/strategy.html, but also hasn't been updated since 1.6 was released and other comments and details around the Joomla communication lines add to the confusion over what is going to happen.

A fun Joomla template for February

Written by Anthony Olsen

Our february Joomla template is a colourful and lighthearted design that uses some bold colours, subtle textures and a few carefully crafted edge highlights.  The screenshot should give you a good idea of where we are headed this month and while the demo content is geared towards mediation or church website, the final template will be flexible enough to be the perfect addition to personal or creative business websites alike ... ok enough of the spin - see the design for yourself.

Adopted Child Grows Up To Father 1,000 New Joomla Sites A Day – with Gary Brooks

I wasn’t sure whether it was appropriate to even ask Gary Brooks about his childhood, but he reassured me in our pre-interview that as a member of the open source community he wanted to be open about who he was.
