Join Our Google Summer of Code Success Story
Written by Chad Windnagle
It is an incredible honor to be a part of the team that helped bring Google Summer of Code (GSoC) back into the Joomla community for 2012. This year, the Joomla community is certainly shaping up to be an exciting one. We’ve had Joomla 2.5, undoubtedly the most advanced and functional version of the CMS released early this year. On top of that, the community has been able to get their hands on yet-another top-notch OSM president who will continue to bring new energy, ideas, and direction to Joomla’s legal entity.
What motivates you motivates us!

Just the other day I got a call from a client. Right in the middle of the conversation he asked me, point-blank, "You seem to really like your job. Why is that?"
This got me thinking. What really motivates ‘corePHP’/JoomlaPraise to do what we do? Our work is not easy and often times it’s challenging and difficult. But we do love it and wouldn’t want it any other way. Let me explain why.
Every day clients contact us with an idea that motivates them for their business. These ideas are creative, fun and challenging...and that motivates us. We love getting feedback from our clients. We love building products that help our customers and clients’ businesses grow. We love helping them build their brands.
Keeping your Joomla web site safe with New Version notifications
Written by Victor Drover
As demonstrated last week with the release of Joomla 2.5.3, security issues can arise unexpectedly in the world of open source software. Thus, it is hard to overstate the importance of keeping your web site updated with the latest version of Joomla and all the extensions you may have installed. It is not surprising then that updates in Joomla 2.5 have become fast and easy within a built-in upgrade system. Updating most extensions is a simple a matter of downloading the latest version and applying it in the Joomla installer.
These are great workflows for any web developer using Joomla and to be effective, one must ensure to be properly notified when new versions of Joomla and Joomla extensions are released.
The OLD K2 community will soon close down...
Written by Fotis Evangelou
A few months ago we launched the revamped K2 website at getk2.org which integrated a new Community forum, located at http://getk2.org/community. We decided to move to an "all Joomla!" solution for more flexibility and better integration with the new features launched for the K2 site, like the ability to submit extensions or templates for the new K2 Extensions Directory.
This new K2 Community has grown tremendously these few months and it's continuing to grow day by day. So it's now time to shut down the OLD K2 community site at community.getk2.org, which was hosted on the (proprietary & restrictive) Ning platform. We plan to take down the OLD K2 community located at community.getk2.org on March 30th 2012.

Joomla Jumps to the Enterprise

CIO — Seven years ago, developers behind Mambo, an open source software project for publishing websites, split over a dispute regarding control of the project. The project fork resulted in Joomla , a free and open source content management system (CMS) for publishing web content and sites.
Today, Joomla—the name is a phonetic spelling for the Swahili word "Jumla," which means "as a whole"—is one of the most popular open source content management systems (CMS), claiming that 2.7 percent of the Web is Joomla-based sites.

You want to upgrade to Joomla 2.5 but don't know how? Well the answer is: it depends. That is why it can be a hard decision if you are trying to determine if you can or should upgrade to Joomla 2.5. Instead of trying to make an eloquent blog post about how to do it, I’ve created a flowchart for you to use to assist in the decision making process. If you are a visual person, this will be particularly useful.
