Joomla blog posts from around the web (04/11)

joomla-week-04Here are some interesting Joomla blog posts I found during the last week.

Brian Teeman's been busy this week - presenting three posts about various Joomla topics. That's what happens when you travel, I guess - you get inspired!

There's also a post about the first JoomlaDay Chile by Ryan Ozimek.

Lastly, Amy Stephen has taken a look at how to create overrides for the Joomla! 1.6 menu item metadata.xml file. Warning: Geek stuff ;)

Have a great week!

Joomla blog posts from around the web (02/11)

joomla-week-02Here are some interesting Joomla blog posts I found during the last week.

Of course, the hot topic in the Joomla sphere last week was the release of version 1.6.

Brian Teeman has done a post with links to movies, presentations and articles about Joomla 1.6. Ryan Ozimek presented Joomla at CodeMash, Amy Stephen has looked at overriding 1.6 framework classes and the project thanks the volunteers.

In other news, there is info on the Santiago Times Joomla site, about Joomla friendly hosting and the release of NinjaBoard 1.0, to mention some.

Migration from Joomla 1.5 to 1.6 is the big thing these days

migration-traffic-illAs I wrote yesterday, lots of people are talking about the migration of websites from Joomla 1.5 to 1.6.

Yesterday's interview with developer Matias Aguirre has resulted in a connection between him an more people in the community. I hope this will result in a powerful and stable migration script as soon as possible.

I also noticed a sharp increase in the traffic to my 2009 post Migration from Joomla 1.5 to 1.6 will be easy. There's no doubt that this subject is something people are concerned about.

Joomla! 1.6.0 released!

joomla-16-ga-releasedToday, Joomla! 1.6.0 has been released. The wait has been long, and now it's finally here!

Of course, there are still things to be resolved. The version is not released as stable, because it still contains bugs.

Even so, I think it's important to get the software out there. Developers need to rewrite their extensions. Template designers need to update and create new templates. Users need to test and learn the new version.

Sneak peek at the upcoming joomla.org redesign

joomla-org-redesign-122010After some years with the same design for joomla.org, it's time for some changin'. A team of designers and usability experts are working hard on the redesign. The process will focus on a new visual design and increased usability for the site.

Some alterations have already been implemented, like the mega menu now found on joomla.org. The site has millions of hits every month. It's divided into several sub sites and sections, which has made it hard to navigate it and find what you're looking for.

The need for more international focus (multi-language and local info) has also become apparent as Joomla has expanded throughout the world.

Most popular blog posts of 2010 - and the Joomla year in review

In this post, I give you the most popular posts of 2010. This year was the first full calendar year blogging about Joomla. I started in May 2009. The year has been incredible, and I think the future is bright for Joomla.

It's what makes me want to write better and more informative posts. I continuously learn from you and your feedback, and I hope you take some value from my posts as well. I wish you and your family a happy holiday and a prosperous 2011.
