jomsocial-16JomSocial 1.6 - [Brillo] has been officially released and is now available for download

Azrul has worked long and hard on this release--adding new features and refining the product to make a faster, streamlined and better JomSocial. And just like it's name suggests, Brillo is clean, powerful..and just plain rocks. We think you will agree.

So what's new about JomSocial 1.6, erm, Brillo? Well, for starters, we have resolved over 170 minor issues that were logged in our internal issue tracking system. You can view the complete change log here, but let me briefly highlight some of JomSocial Brillo's exciting new features.

Here are some interesting Joomla blog posts I found during week 3. Enjoy!

Joooid main screenJoooid is an Android client for the Joomla CMS: it has been created to publish articles with images, galleries and a map indicating the GPS position where the article has been published from.

Among the features of Joooid are an article manager. The article manager allows you to browse, publish or trash articles. There's also a utility which uploads files from the Android device directly into the Joomla directory.

To start using Joooid you need to download and install it from the Android Market. Then, install the Joooid plugin (see instructions here). It's also possible to install some extra plugins to embed Google maps in your article and optionally a shadowbox plugin for the image gallery. The developer is currently working on a solution to embed YouTube videos as well.

Joomla 1.6 has been under way for a long time. And it looks like it's going to be a great piece of open source software.

There are some things, though: It takes time. A lot of time. And no one knows when we will see a stable version of Joomla 1.6. At this point, no one even knows when the Joomla 1.6 beta will be available.

So what to do with that new site of yours?

Anything Digital has released a new version of the SEF URL component sh404SEF.

Today's release of sh404SEF (V 1.5.5) has a full set of settings to customize the layout of your page title (at least for Joomla regular content). The default values are the same as the those for urls, but now you can change it to your liking.

The new version also includes a new layout and most importantly the new "similar urls" suggestions section.

K2 logoYesterday, Joomla extensions developer JoomlaWorks released version 2.2 of their immensely popular and useful content component - K2.

K2 is the popular powerful content component for Joomla! with CCK-like features.

Here are some interesting Joomla blog posts I found during 52nd week. Enjoy!

I've received quite a few emails from readers wishing me a Merry Christmas. Thanks a lot, guys!

A few of them asked if there's snow here. And indeed it is :) During the last 3 days it's been snowing a lot. Not sure exactly how much, but it's probably over 50 cms (approx 20 inches).

I've created a small video, using my new Flip MinoHD Camcorder . Lots of snow has nothing to do with Joomla, except that it's fun!

I've found some nice end-of-the-year Joomla discounts you can enjoy. But you have to be quick. They expire December 31st!

Here they are - enjoy.

freshClicksGAAIf you use Google Analytics to track your website traffic you should read this. Google Analytics now provides a new Asynchronous Tracking Code snippet as an alternate way to track your website.

Think of the asynchronous tracking code snippet as a script that uses a "separate lane" to handle part of the processing of your webpage. As the number of cars (or in this case, scripts on your webpage) increases, the asynchronous tracker uses this lane to reduce webpage load time. Websites that use many scripts or rely on rich media content will especially benefit from this new method, but even lightweight sites will see improvements.
